The Common Working Environment (CWE) is a central component of the OPTAIN framework designed to support harmonised modelling, data exchange and collaborative analysis across case studies.

Given the diversity of biogeographical regions, data availability and governance contexts, a structured and shared analytical environment was necessary to ensure consistency, transparency and comparability.

The CWE provides a coordinated space where modelling workflows, performance indicators and optimisation procedures are applied using common standards. This strengthens the reliability of cross-case analysis and supports evidence-based policy discussions.

Rather than functioning as a regulatory monitoring platform, the CWE serves as an analytical and collaborative infrastructure that enhances coherence between data, modelling and stakeholder engagement.
